About Kaki Press

Kaki Press is a Riso print studio based in north London (N4), founded by Kadence in 2023.

It all started with me falling for Riso while studying Graphic Communication Design at Central Saint Martins. Then I went and bought one online. I printed my own illustrations at first, and it grew from there. Now I print for other people too, and try to get them as hooked as I am.

We print small runs on a single-drum Riso machine: prints, zines, posters, editions, and the occasional very odd thing someone's dreamed up. Everything goes through the press one colour at a time, and gets trimmed, folded and packed by hand with love. Four inks at the moment, and it's a small palette, but it covers the basic colours, and overlapping them opens up far more colours than four.

About Riso

Riso machines were built in 1980s Japan to run off cheap copies for offices and schools. Artists got hold of them later, and it turned out they were good at something nobody had planned for.

It works a bit like screen printing. Each colour is pushed through its own stencil, one pass at a time, onto uncoated paper. The soy ink soaks into the paper, and each colour is a spot colour, which makes the colours very vibrant and unique.

Because the colours go on separately, you can overlap two inks and get a third. The press leaves a texture of its own on every sheet, and every layer is lined up by hand, so no two copies come out exactly the same.

Get in touch

For custom sizes, collaborations, or anything the form doesn't cover, drop us an email.

We're in north London (N4). It's a home studio, so there's no shop to walk into, but if you'd rather collect than post, email us and we'll see what we can do.

Our registered office in Covent Garden is a legal address for Companies House and HMRC only. Nothing sent there reaches the studio, so please don't post artwork or anything else to it.

Got something in mind? Order on the site. It prices your job as you pick the size, inks and paper, so you can play around before committing to anything.
